Wyatt 5/6 Month Update

It’s hard to believe Wyatt is now 7 months old!  Time is FLYING by!  Here’s a recap from the last two months…

His official Stats:

Weight: 17.8 lbs (he’s a solid little dude)
Height: 24.5 inches
Teeth: none (definitely teething though)
Clothes: 6-9 month

Wyatt 's personality is developing more and more every day!  According to his teachers at daycare he’s "the happiest baby they’ve ever met!”

He is now officially sleeping in his crib (unless he’s sick then he ends up in his swing). At about 5 months he moved from sleeping on his back to sleeping on his stomach.  He was pretty restless at first, waking up quite often until we introduced a small crocheted blanket (don’t worry, it’s totally breathable), which immediately did the trick.  He loves to curl up with it and sleeps great all night (most nights)

Wyatt has hit quite a few milestones these past couple of months. One of his favorite things to do is to “be heard”.  He loves to squawk as loud as he can and babbles quite often!  He’s started sitting up by himself (still a bit unsteady, but getting there), scoots and rolls all over, and is now pushing himself up on to his hands and knees like he’s ready to start crawling any day now!  He definitely gets frustrated that he can’t quite move yet.

As far as eating goes, the majority of his meals come via bottle (about 25-30 oz a day).  At 6 months we introduced baby food, but he didn’t really take to it right away.  We currently feed him via spoon once a day (usually at dinner time) and he’s liking it more and more (bananas are his current favorite).

Other favorites of Wyatt’s include: bath time, hanging out his Jumperoo – he goes absolutely crazy in the thing, being tossed into the air and giggling at the top of his lungs, staring at his hands for long periods of time (hilarious to watch), and of course his sister – he LOVES watching her play and she is a great source of entertainment for him!

Overall he’s a wonderful baby – we love him so much!

Happy 3/4 Months, Wyatt!

Our little man is growing up so fast, but he's still just a little guy with a big ol' noggin'!  Offical stats at his four month check up were:  14 lbs (19th %), 25 inches (19th %), and head is in the 80th percentile!

As far as his temperament goes, he is the most chill baby I’ve ever met!  Unless he’s starving or very tired, he doesn’t cry - he’s totally content 95% of the time!  His favorite thing to do is smile.  He literally smiles at everything and I love it…his little grin makes my heart melt!  He also adores his big sister.  He intently listens to her when she talks and I swear he looks for her when we carry him into a room then immediately grins from ear to ear when he sees her!  So cute!

As far as his eating habits go, he’s currently eating about 4.5-5 oz of formula every three hours.  We also plan to start him on rice cereal via a spoon this month!  We noticed he’s been drooling like crazy and when I mentioned it to his doctor at his 4 month checkup; she told me it’s a sign he’s ready to learn to swallow!  She recommended starting rice cereal and once he got the hang of swallowing, the drool would be less…until he starts teething, of course!  :)

Sleep.  Ah, sleep.  I am lucky to say he’s been consistently sleeping through the night since about 2.5 months!  As of lately though, he’s really been fighting going to sleep.  Normal routine is bottle and cuddles in the chair for a few minutes before we lay him down.  This worked perfectly up until about two weeks ago.  Now, he screams for a good 30 mins (on and off) until he finally cries himself to sleep.  A couple of nights ago after Googling “why does my baby all the sudden scream at bedtime” we decided to push up his bedtime an hour earlier (now 7pm), which has seemed to do the trick - no more screaming before bed!  Apparently we were missing that “window” and waiting too long to put him to bed.

Up until about two weeks ago he was being swaddled at night, but not anymore.  We noticed he was fighting it so we stopped and he seems much more content.   The only real downside (in my opinion) to our nighttime routine is the fact he is still sleeping in his Rock ‘N Play Sleeper (in his own room).  I have mixed feelings about this – the pediatrician says as long as he comfortable and still sleeping through the night there was nothing wrong with it.  However, I feel like he needs to be in his crib, so I want to make the transition soon!

Other updates:

First Halloween is coming up – he’s going as Batman :)
Is SO close to rolling over – it’ll be any day now!
Really starting to put weight on his legs – loves to stand
Loves to sit in his bumbo
Grabs his pacifier and takes it out of his mouth all the time
Loves holding onto something while going to sleep

Tomorrow I'll have a  post about our favorite baby items for 3-4 months!  Stay tuned!

Happy 1 month, Wyatt!

Tomorrow, Wyatt will be four weeks old!  How the heck did that happen so fast?

We don’t know his exact weight, but we are guessing he is 8lbs and some change (he was exactly 8lbs at his two-week checkup).  He is easily filling out his newborn clothes and starting to fit into his 0-3 month clothes!

He is getting so much stronger each day.  One of his favorite things to do is lay on our chests and lift his head up as high as he can to look around!  He loves to be swaddled and also loves his swing!

He was given his first real bath last week as he finally lost his umbilical cord stump – it’s too bad he didn’t really enjoy it though, lol.

As for feedings, he’s currently eating about 3.5 ounces every 2-2.5 hours, but going longer stretches at night.  We’re starting to get a nightly routine going.  He’s being fed at 10pm before we go to bed, 1:30am, and then again at 5:00am.  Ryan usually takes the early 1:30 feeding and I take the 5:00…so far it’s working pretty well!

He’s being bottle fed, and we’ve noticed he doesn’t quite have the “suck, swallow, breathe” technique down yet.  Feedings take about 20-30 minutes each time because he stops to breathe so often.  Fingers crossed this gets easier for him as he gets bigger!  We’ve also noticed he fusses a bit after he’s done eating.  To help, we recently started giving him gas drops before he eats.

All in all he is a very sweet baby!  I love cuddling and playing with him during the day, going on walks, and taking him out and about (he’s a good shopper)!

Rowen is LOVING having a baby brother.  She loves to hold him, help change his diaper, help hold his bottle and sing him songs.  Within minutes of meeting her brother at the hospital, she was singing lullabies to him --- I have a video of it and it’s the sweetest thing ever!

The first week at home was a bit of an adjustment for her as her routine was a lot different (lots of grandparent time, visitors, etc), but since then we’ve gotten her back into her normal everyday routine, which we think has helped a lot!  She loves going to “school” (aka daycare) during the day and playing with her friends.  I felt very guilty sending her at first knowing I was at home, but she’d much rather play with her friends than me anyway – she let me know that! HA!

As for me, I am feeling great!  I bounced back a lot quicker than I thought I would!  I’ve even started to workout a bit, and am hoping to get cleared to start running again next week at my doctor’s appointment!  YAY!

Happy one month little man, we love you!
