WYATT TURNS 2

Well, back in MAY (still catching up), we had Wyatt's second birthday!  I cannot believe my little dude is now two!

When I was pregnant with Wyatt, everyone used to tell me, "oh boys are so different than girls", and I never believed them.  Well, they were right!  Wyatt is a tough cookie sometimes.  He's very stubborn and wants what he wants when he wants it, but at the same time he can also be sweet and unbelievably charming.  He also loves attention and makes us laugh multiple times a day.  I love the little guy so much!

Age:  24 Months

Stats: 22 pounds and short - I don't remember exact numbers, but he's small for his age.

Teeth:  I know he doesn't yet have them all.  He actually sees the dentist for the second time next week!

Clothes:  Barely in 24 months.  2T still seems too big although I don't understand the difference?

Favorite Foods:  Eating is a nightmare with Wyatt.  Rowen ate anything and everything.  Wyatt just wants to snack.  Fair warning, hardly any of his diet is healthy, but right now we are just working on getting him to eat something!  So far his favorites include...

  • Mac N Cheese
  • Crackers of any kind
  • Corn dogs
  • Spaghetti O's
  • PB&J's
  • My protein bars (ha)
  • Noodles with Butter
  • Oranges and occasionally a banana
  • Frozen French Toast sticks

Milestones:
  • Can count to 15
  • Putting together 3-4 word sentences
  • Can name every character in the TV show blaze, but cannot yet identify all of his colors, ha.
  • Can sing about half of the ABC's
  • Brushes his teeth (with our help)
  • Becoming very independant - shuts the doors, wants to put on his own shoes, turn off the lights, etc.

Favorite Things:
  • Trucks - can name all types of trucks if he's shown a picture.
  • His push lawn mower
  • Anything Lightening McQueen
  • His "scooter"
  • Nick Jr's. Blaze and the Monster Machines
  • The bounce house
  • His truck pajamas

Least Favorite Things:
  • Sharing
  • Most foods

Sleep:
  • 10-12 hours each night.  Sleeps in his crib, thinking toddler bed this winter
  • Takes one afternoon nap (2 hours)

Wyatt 5/6 Month Update

It’s hard to believe Wyatt is now 7 months old!  Time is FLYING by!  Here’s a recap from the last two months…

His official Stats:

Weight: 17.8 lbs (he’s a solid little dude)
Height: 24.5 inches
Teeth: none (definitely teething though)
Clothes: 6-9 month

Wyatt 's personality is developing more and more every day!  According to his teachers at daycare he’s "the happiest baby they’ve ever met!”

He is now officially sleeping in his crib (unless he’s sick then he ends up in his swing). At about 5 months he moved from sleeping on his back to sleeping on his stomach.  He was pretty restless at first, waking up quite often until we introduced a small crocheted blanket (don’t worry, it’s totally breathable), which immediately did the trick.  He loves to curl up with it and sleeps great all night (most nights)

Wyatt has hit quite a few milestones these past couple of months. One of his favorite things to do is to “be heard”.  He loves to squawk as loud as he can and babbles quite often!  He’s started sitting up by himself (still a bit unsteady, but getting there), scoots and rolls all over, and is now pushing himself up on to his hands and knees like he’s ready to start crawling any day now!  He definitely gets frustrated that he can’t quite move yet.

As far as eating goes, the majority of his meals come via bottle (about 25-30 oz a day).  At 6 months we introduced baby food, but he didn’t really take to it right away.  We currently feed him via spoon once a day (usually at dinner time) and he’s liking it more and more (bananas are his current favorite).

Other favorites of Wyatt’s include: bath time, hanging out his Jumperoo – he goes absolutely crazy in the thing, being tossed into the air and giggling at the top of his lungs, staring at his hands for long periods of time (hilarious to watch), and of course his sister – he LOVES watching her play and she is a great source of entertainment for him!

Overall he’s a wonderful baby – we love him so much!

Happy 3/4 Months, Wyatt!

Our little man is growing up so fast, but he's still just a little guy with a big ol' noggin'!  Offical stats at his four month check up were:  14 lbs (19th %), 25 inches (19th %), and head is in the 80th percentile!

As far as his temperament goes, he is the most chill baby I’ve ever met!  Unless he’s starving or very tired, he doesn’t cry - he’s totally content 95% of the time!  His favorite thing to do is smile.  He literally smiles at everything and I love it…his little grin makes my heart melt!  He also adores his big sister.  He intently listens to her when she talks and I swear he looks for her when we carry him into a room then immediately grins from ear to ear when he sees her!  So cute!

As far as his eating habits go, he’s currently eating about 4.5-5 oz of formula every three hours.  We also plan to start him on rice cereal via a spoon this month!  We noticed he’s been drooling like crazy and when I mentioned it to his doctor at his 4 month checkup; she told me it’s a sign he’s ready to learn to swallow!  She recommended starting rice cereal and once he got the hang of swallowing, the drool would be less…until he starts teething, of course!  :)

Sleep.  Ah, sleep.  I am lucky to say he’s been consistently sleeping through the night since about 2.5 months!  As of lately though, he’s really been fighting going to sleep.  Normal routine is bottle and cuddles in the chair for a few minutes before we lay him down.  This worked perfectly up until about two weeks ago.  Now, he screams for a good 30 mins (on and off) until he finally cries himself to sleep.  A couple of nights ago after Googling “why does my baby all the sudden scream at bedtime” we decided to push up his bedtime an hour earlier (now 7pm), which has seemed to do the trick - no more screaming before bed!  Apparently we were missing that “window” and waiting too long to put him to bed.

Up until about two weeks ago he was being swaddled at night, but not anymore.  We noticed he was fighting it so we stopped and he seems much more content.   The only real downside (in my opinion) to our nighttime routine is the fact he is still sleeping in his Rock ‘N Play Sleeper (in his own room).  I have mixed feelings about this – the pediatrician says as long as he comfortable and still sleeping through the night there was nothing wrong with it.  However, I feel like he needs to be in his crib, so I want to make the transition soon!

Other updates:

First Halloween is coming up – he’s going as Batman :)
Is SO close to rolling over – it’ll be any day now!
Really starting to put weight on his legs – loves to stand
Loves to sit in his bumbo
Grabs his pacifier and takes it out of his mouth all the time
Loves holding onto something while going to sleep

Tomorrow I'll have a  post about our favorite baby items for 3-4 months!  Stay tuned!

Wyatt's Airplane Nursery

It's been three months since Wyatt was born and I am just now getting around to doing his Nursery post even though it's still not done.  I need a rug (cannot for the life of me find one), I need to refinish his nightstand (it's in horrible shape) and I need to add a few more decor pieces, but I have no idea when I am going to find time to do it. So for the time being I'm calling it complete.  Here it is...Wyatt's vintage airplane nursery!

His crib and glider are the same pieces Rowen had as a baby!  The crib turns into a full size bed, which I am excited about for when he gets older.  I originally toyed with the idea of selling both to please my obsession with white furniture, but Ryan convinced me to keep them because they look more "boyish"...I agree!

The colors for his room were originally just going to be white and blue, but then the bedding I found had pops of red in it, so red, white and blue it became...all american boy, I guess!

This is the nightstand that needs refinished...thinking of painting it red, but we'll see if I actually get around to it or not!

As for wall decor, I wanted to do it as cheap as possible.  For this piece in particular, I bought four square canvases, covered them with fabric and added some wooden letters.  So easy!

Above his crib hang a few airplane prints I got online, printed myself and framed, and an awesome metal plane I found at Hobby lobby!

His changing table is also a hand-me-down from Rowen.  I dressed up the wall space above it with this adorable banner I found online, and this white shelf holding a few knickknacks!

Everyone that sees the room always asks where I bought the "fly" sign.  I actually made it myself for about $6.  I found cardboard letters at hobby lobby, modge podged them and painted them white.  I then stuck them to the wall using velcro adhesive strips...so easy!  I love the way the white pops against the wall!

As for the curtains, I decided to go with a more preppy look.  I found these nautical striped curtains at TJMaxx on sale!

For now his toys and books sit in this brown box.  I have ideas in my head for other toy storage, but quite frankly I'm running out of floor space in his room, so this will do for now!

That's it!  I'll be sure to update again as I finish it!

Happy Two Months, Wyatt!

Yesterday, our little “WyGuy”, turned a whole two months old!  This second month has been much easier and much more fun than the first!  He smiles all the time – especially after he eats, makes lots of funny noises, poops like a champ, loves blowing spit bubbles, and kicks his feet 24/7!

This morning Wyatt had his two month checkup!  He's a little on the small side weighing in at 11 lbs 5 ounces (25%) and is 22.25 inches long (16%), but the doctor said he's doing great!  He also had his first set of shots, which led to blood curdling screams.  Rowen would often times get high fevers after her shots, so I’m eager to see if Wyatt will do the same, fingers crossed he doesn’t!

As far as milestones go, the past couple of weeks he’s become so much more alert and has really started to track things with his eyes.  He LOVES laying on his activity mat, listening to the music and batting at the toys hanging in front of him.

Best of all (and I really hope I don't jinx it by saying this), Wyatt has started sleeping through the night, 8pm to 5/6am, which is keeping Ryan and I very happy!  He’s been sleeping in his own room, in his Rock 'n Play sleeper since night one, and we hope to transition him to his crib in the next month or so.  He sleeps swaddled up tight (in these), which he loves!

Since I’m now back in the office (part-time), a more defined schedule is a must!   During the day he eats 3.5 ounces every 2-3 hours, takes a 1-2 hour morning nap and a 2-3 hour afternoon nap!  He then gets a bottle and is put to bed around the same time every night.  I said it with Rowen and I’ll say it again with Wyatt, I think a constant, everyday routine is the key to good sleeping habits!  Next week he starts daycare and I pray that our schedule stays the same because this mama needs her sleep!
