I finally got Wyatt's birth story up on the blog so without going into too much detail, here it is...
Last baby update I left you was at 36 weeks and I'm happy to report I made it all the way to 40 weeks with an induction scheduled for 40+3 days, but thankfully never made it that far!
Friday night
(May 29th), I went to bed with plans to get up early the next morning and head downtown to watch my friends run Dam to Dam. Since running was out of the question for me this year, I decided I'd go and cheer everyone on, but little did I know baby boy had other plans....
May 30, 2015:
4:30 AM: I woke up with the urge to pee
(not uncommon), however this time was different because I had intense back pain along with it. Not thinking much of it, I went back to bed to try to get some more sleep, but within minutes of laying down, that intense pain had all of the sudden moved from my back to my lower abdomen. It was then I realized these were probably contractions
(something I never experienced with Rowen) and within minutes they started coming hard and fast with no mercy!
5:00AM: I somehow managed to take a shower and then told
(more like screamed at) Ryan to call his mom to come watch Rowen. Ryan's mom was coming to our house from about 45 minutes away so we had to wait, and at this point the contractions were coming so hard the only way I could handle them was to get down on all fours and plead to God to make them stop.
6:00 AM: Ryan's mom arrived at the house, I somehow picked myself up off the floor and endured
(what felt) like the longest car ride ever to the hospital.
6:30 AM: We got to Mercy Hospital, and I ran like hell to the elevator and into the labor and delivery area. I must have looked like a complete train wreck because without question the nurse at the front desk had me in a wheelchair and calling to get me into a room asap.
6:40 AM: I met my nurse who was literally an angel from Heaven. She put me into one of those lovely hospital gowns, checked me
(i was at a 7), started me on an IV with a bag of fluid, drugged me with fentanyl, and ordered an epidural --- all within a half hour of being there! All I have to say is thank God for her - she deserved nurse of the year for that!
7:15 AM: I met Doug, the EMT student who just happened to be studying at the hospital that morning and asked "
is it ok if I observe your delivery" to which I replied, "yeah,
sure, whatever, where's my epidural?" (Side note: Had I not been in so much pain I probably would have said no to this, HA!)
7:45 AM: I got my epidural and everything was right with the world again.
8:00 AM: The epidural started to kick in and I was literally the happiest person on earth. I chatted it up with the doctors, Doug
(good grief), Ryan, and my nurse.
9:00 AM: Doctor broke my water
10:30 AM: TIME TO PUSH! I started pushing before the doctor got there
(he had to take his kid to practice...umm, ok).
10:45 AM: Doctor had arrived, more pushing
11:09 AM: Little baby Wyatt is born weighing 7 lbs 8 oz and measuring 19.25 inches long!
The rest of the day was then spent settling into our recovery room, calling our family and friends, taking pictures and seeing visitors!
We are beyond thankful for our healthy, amazing, handsome little guy and cannot wait to share more of his adventures in the future!
