Happy 1 month, Wyatt!

Tomorrow, Wyatt will be four weeks old!  How the heck did that happen so fast?

We don’t know his exact weight, but we are guessing he is 8lbs and some change (he was exactly 8lbs at his two-week checkup).  He is easily filling out his newborn clothes and starting to fit into his 0-3 month clothes!

He is getting so much stronger each day.  One of his favorite things to do is lay on our chests and lift his head up as high as he can to look around!  He loves to be swaddled and also loves his swing!

He was given his first real bath last week as he finally lost his umbilical cord stump – it’s too bad he didn’t really enjoy it though, lol.

As for feedings, he’s currently eating about 3.5 ounces every 2-2.5 hours, but going longer stretches at night.  We’re starting to get a nightly routine going.  He’s being fed at 10pm before we go to bed, 1:30am, and then again at 5:00am.  Ryan usually takes the early 1:30 feeding and I take the 5:00…so far it’s working pretty well!

He’s being bottle fed, and we’ve noticed he doesn’t quite have the “suck, swallow, breathe” technique down yet.  Feedings take about 20-30 minutes each time because he stops to breathe so often.  Fingers crossed this gets easier for him as he gets bigger!  We’ve also noticed he fusses a bit after he’s done eating.  To help, we recently started giving him gas drops before he eats.

All in all he is a very sweet baby!  I love cuddling and playing with him during the day, going on walks, and taking him out and about (he’s a good shopper)!

Rowen is LOVING having a baby brother.  She loves to hold him, help change his diaper, help hold his bottle and sing him songs.  Within minutes of meeting her brother at the hospital, she was singing lullabies to him --- I have a video of it and it’s the sweetest thing ever!

The first week at home was a bit of an adjustment for her as her routine was a lot different (lots of grandparent time, visitors, etc), but since then we’ve gotten her back into her normal everyday routine, which we think has helped a lot!  She loves going to “school” (aka daycare) during the day and playing with her friends.  I felt very guilty sending her at first knowing I was at home, but she’d much rather play with her friends than me anyway – she let me know that! HA!

As for me, I am feeling great!  I bounced back a lot quicker than I thought I would!  I’ve even started to workout a bit, and am hoping to get cleared to start running again next week at my doctor’s appointment!  YAY!

Happy one month little man, we love you!

Father's Day 2015

Father's Day 2015 was extra special because this year we celebrated as a family of four!

The morning started with gifts for Ryan ---- A new fishing pole and a surprise pole for Rowie, too! Lately, Rowen has been talking a lot about backyard camping and fishing so I thought I'd get her a pole to go along with Ryan's.  She and Ryan spent the morning learning to cast in the living room!

Later, we headed to a nearby park to play on the playground and splash around in the fountain!  It was hot, almost too hot to keep Wyatt out very long so after about 40 minutes we headed indoors for a pizza lunch!

We then ended the day at our neighborhood pond so that Rowen could get a chance to go "real fishing".  She absolutely LOVED it and now calls herself "daddy's fishing buddy" - so cute!

So with that, I just want to say happy Father's Day to all the dads out there!

Wyatt's Birth Story

I finally got Wyatt's birth story up on the blog so without going into too much detail, here it is...

Last baby update I left you was at 36 weeks and I'm happy to report I made it all the way to 40 weeks with an induction scheduled for 40+3 days, but thankfully never made it that far!

Friday night (May 29th), I went to bed with plans to get up early the next morning and head downtown to watch my friends run Dam to Dam.  Since running was out of the question for me this year, I decided I'd go and cheer everyone on, but little did I know baby boy had other plans....

May 30, 2015:

4:30 AM: I woke up with the urge to pee (not uncommon), however this time was different because I had intense back pain along with it.  Not thinking much of it, I went back to bed to try to get some more sleep, but within minutes of laying down, that intense pain had all of the sudden moved from my back to my lower abdomen.  It was then I realized these were probably contractions (something I never experienced with Rowen) and within minutes they started coming hard and fast with no mercy!

5:00AM:  I somehow managed to take a shower and then told (more like screamed at) Ryan to call his mom to come watch Rowen.  Ryan's mom was coming to our house from about 45 minutes away so we had to wait, and at this point the contractions were coming so hard the only way I could handle them was to get down on all fours and plead to God to make them stop.

6:00 AM: Ryan's mom arrived at the house, I somehow picked myself up off the floor and endured (what felt) like the longest car ride ever to the hospital.

6:30 AM:  We got to Mercy Hospital, and I ran like hell to the elevator and into the labor and delivery area.  I must have looked like a complete train wreck because without question the nurse at the front desk had me in a wheelchair and calling to get me into a room asap.

6:40 AM:  I met my nurse who was literally an angel from Heaven.  She put me into one of those lovely hospital gowns, checked me (i was at a 7), started me on an IV with a bag of fluid, drugged me with fentanyl, and ordered an epidural --- all within a half hour of being there! All I have to say is thank God for her - she deserved nurse of the year for that!

7:15 AM:  I met Doug, the EMT student who just happened to be studying at the hospital that morning and asked "is it ok if I observe your delivery" to which I replied, "yeah, sure, whatever, where's my epidural?" (Side note:  Had I not been in so much pain I probably would have said no to this, HA!)

7:45 AM:  I got my epidural and everything was right with the world again.

8:00 AM:  The epidural started to kick in and I was literally the happiest person on earth.  I chatted it up with the doctors, Doug (good grief), Ryan, and my nurse.

9:00 AM:  Doctor broke my water

10:30 AM:  TIME TO PUSH!  I started pushing before the doctor got there (he had to take his kid to practice...umm, ok).

10:45 AM:  Doctor had arrived, more pushing

11:09 AM:  Little baby Wyatt is born weighing 7 lbs 8 oz and measuring 19.25 inches long!

The rest of the day was then spent settling into our recovery room, calling our family and friends, taking pictures and seeing visitors!

We are beyond thankful for our healthy, amazing, handsome little guy and cannot wait to share more of his adventures in the future!

He's Here!

I know.  It’s been a LONG time since I last blogged, but I feel like I have a good excuse…

I’m happy to introduce to you the newest member of our little family, baby Wyatt!

I plan to write a lot more in the future while I'm on maternity leave.  In the coming days I hope to have his birth story, a summary of our first couple weeks, and a peek at his newborn pictures on the blog, so stay tuned!
